Continua a sacanagem - Mails para UEFA e FIFA

Blog do Belenenses: Luciano Rodrigues

Caros amigos, continua a valer tudo no futebol português.

Dear Sirs,

I’m member of a group of fans of portuguese side Clube de Futebol “Os Belenenses”, and we would like to inform you of another serious fraud commited in Portuguese football in last few days.

Portuguese League Cup (Taça da Liga - Carlsberg Cup) has a Group Stage before the semi-finals with the 12 surviving teams divided onto 3 groups of 4 each. The winner of each group and the better 2nd placed are through the semi-finals.

2 weeks ago the last round of the Group Stage was played and Clube de Futebol “Os Belenenses” and Vitória Sport Clube ended up tied with 4 points in 2nd place of Group C. Clube de Futebol “Os Belenenses” with 2 goals scored and 1 conceded and Vitória Sport Clube with 3 goals scored and 2 conceded. Common sense would let us to consider Vitória Sport Clube as 2nd placed, as the goal difference was the same, but they scored more goals.

However, this recently born competition in Portugal recalled to a rule that isn’t used anymore since the 70s worldwide, the goal-average, instead of the goal-difference. Notably, the Portuguese rules which are written in Portuguese refer to goal-average specifically in English, as all other Portuguese competitions refer to “diferença de golos”, the Portuguese translation to “goal-difference”.

Under the Goal-Average rule, Belenenses has 2 points and Vitória just gets 1,5 point, so, according to the rules, Belenenses was 2nd in it’s group and would proceed to the semi-finals, as Group C 2nd placed was the one with most points in all 3 groups.

However, and despite all the efforts from Belenenses to the rule being accomplished, yesterday the Portuguese Football Association (FPF) reject our club’s appeal in order to play today’s semi-final against Benfica, pleading that Belenenses appeal was sent to Mrs. Andreia Couto (Portuguese League Chief Executive) and she wasn’t the person the appeal would be addressed to, not clarifying who would that be. For that reason, they declared the appeal was denied. But they added they will ask the League to change the expression "goal-average" to "diferença de golos (goal difference)" in the rules...

This is just one of many frauds in Portuguese football, unfortunately some of them harm our club as we don’t have anyone inside the structures of League or Football Association who can defend us in a swamp like portuguese football.

We would like to thank you in advance for your attention to this issue and still believe the international associations may force Portuguese football to obey to it’s own rules, as you did some times before.

Kind regards,
